The souls were created together (7:172) It is clear from this information that before a human child comes into existence in the world, his soul has been living in the invisible world for a long time. Similarly, with the death of the body, it again passes from the visible world to the invisible world. That is, the soul is the only one connected with the mortal and the immortal world.
The span of a human life of sixty or seventy years is a moment compared to the vastness of time, nay, it is less than a moment. And it is not possible for anyone to be greater or better within this moment. So is it possible for someone who is immortal to ignore the whole of time and attach importance to this moment? Certainly not. So if the human soul is immortal and incorruptible, it will certainly give importance to the whole of time; after the death of the body, it will pass on to the path of eternal life.
It is undeniable that there is good and bad in every being. Bad is that which corrupts or destroys something else, and good is that which protects and improves something else. If we take the case of the eye, inflammation of the eye is its bad state. If we take the case of the whole body, disease is the bad state of the body. Similarly, the bad state of crops is plant disease, in the case of wood its decay, in the case of copper and iron its rusting, etc. In short, almost every object has an aspect of its decay or badness, and if something is affected or infected by this decay, then its destruction is inevitable in the end. That is, in the end it falls to the point of death or it ceases to exist completely. And that which, even if attacked and damaged by any decay, cannot be destroyed, is indestructible.
It is true that the creation, nourishment, growth and decay of all living beings in the visible world, the world of the sun, are accomplished by it. Is there anything in this visible world that can harm the soul? Injustice, anarchy, cowardice and ignorance, etc., harm the soul, but can any of these completely destroy the soul?
The soul can become evil; the evil soul can be caught in the act of wrongdoing; but it is not right to think that it is completely destroyed because of this evil force. Rather, let us look at the matter from another angle. The evil force of the body is its disease. Disease weakens it; destroys it. Ultimately, the existence of the body is destroyed. Let us judge the soul in this way. Can the existence of wrongdoing and other evil forces in the soul weaken and destroy the soul in such a way that the soul can no longer exist as a soul, the soul dies and it is forced to leave the body? No, such destruction is not possible. Again, it is not logical to think that no one is destroyed by his own destruction, but by the destruction of others.
If the death of the body occurs due to old and contaminated food or due to some other defect in the food or if the body begins to decay due to some such defect in the food, then it is fair to say that the death of the body occurs due to its own nature; bad food is only an occasion for it. For the body and bad food are different in nature. Their connection here is only this, that bad food can activate the bad nature of the body. On this basis it can be said that if the disease of the body cannot activate the disease of the soul's own nature, then it is not fair to say that the death of the soul can occur due to the disease of the body. To say so would mean that the disease of one of those who are completely different in nature is capable of destroying the other.
Until this argument is refuted, it can be held that fever or any other disease or any other injury to the body - even if the body is torn to pieces and destroyed - cannot affect or destroy the soul. Until someone proves that the soul, in its own nature, can be reduced to a more wrong or inferior state by such a disorder or condition of the body, this opinion cannot be changed. It cannot be said that the soul or anything else can be destroyed by a disorder of its own nature, by the inherent disorder of a different existence. In short, it is not possible for anyone to prove that death reduces the soul to a morally inferior being. But if someone, not accepting this argument, says in order to deny the immortality of the soul that man is reduced to a lower existence through death, I will still say that even if his opinion is true, it is because of the evil power of man's own nature that he becomes an inferior existence. The criminal did not die because of the death penalty imposed by law; his death occurred because of a serious illness inherent in his nature.
If a person's own evil power has seriously damaged him from within, then any blow can cause his death. But the matter is quite the opposite. Evil power does not cause its own death, it causes the death of others. On the other hand, a person whose nature has this evil power, instead of death, starts enjoying life with greater enthusiasm.
If the soul's own nature cannot destroy it, then there will be no exception to this general rule. Therefore, as a general rule, nothing can be destroyed by a force whose goal is to destroy some other existence, not its own. In fact, it can only destroy itself, not others.
So if the truth of the soul is that nothing, neither its own nature nor the defilements of others, can destroy it, then the soul is indestructible, the existence of the soul is eternal. In other words, it can be said that the soul is immortal. And if this is true, then it is also true that the same soul exists forever. Because, there can be no decrease in the number of souls. No soul dies. Again, there can be no increase in the number of souls. Because if the increase in immortality could have happened only at the expense of mortality, then everything would have become immortal in the end. But no one can say so on the basis of logic, and no one can say that the soul can be changeable or unstable or contradictory in the basic characteristics of its nature. Because, being made up of many contradictory elements, it is difficult for it to be indestructible. Therefore, the soul is immortal - all the arguments given prove it. As soon as we reached this conclusion that the soul is immortal, we understood that the soul is capable of overcoming all good and evil. The soul is our guide. The soul is the one who takes us forward with firm steps and takes us forward and upward. The soul is the one who inspires us in the pursuit of justice and knowledge. And the belief in the immortality of the soul will establish peace in our minds in this world and the next. It will help us to be just in this world, and strengthen our relationship with God. And when the collection of the title of honor like the winner at the end of the game ends in our life and when the long trial of a thousand years in the next world begins for us, then we will surely be able to face the Creator in that judgment with a carefree mind. End. Source : The Republic by Plato.
